After a sour argument over the SNP’s retreat on climate targets, Mr. Yousaf declared earlier on Thursday that he intended to sever ties with the Greens.
Labour and the Liberal Democrats decided to support the motion, but its outcome depended on whether MSPs from the Green Party joined the assault to give opponents of the SNP a majority in Holyrood.
The party’s co-leaders, Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater, have now said that they will work together to denounce Mr. Yousaf’s leadership. Green insiders have informed News that the deposed party was quite enraged.
The Greens have seven, the Conservatives have thirty-one, Labour have twenty-two, the Liberal Democrats have four, and there is one Alba MSP, Ash Regan, who used to be Mr. Yousaf’s competitor for the SNP leadership. Additionally, there is presiding officer Alison Johnstone, who is an MSP and Scotland’s version of the Speaker of the Commons.
