The company raises the insects in a tiny indoor facility outside of Bangkok in order to provide animal feed for the nation’s pig and shrimp farms.
The larvae feed on fruit and vegetable waste from food and drink makers and dwell in a dark, warm, and humid environment. After they are gathered, they are mixed with probiotic bacteria and mushrooms.
According to Mr. Collins, the product is a more ecologically friendly substitute for the market’s most popular animal feeds made mostly of soybeans. The latter have frequently been connected to South Africa’s deforestation here.
