The government of Sindh has made the decision to auction “Premium Number Plates” for automobiles in order to collect money through the “inheritable and transferable” choice number fee method.
The provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday approved several important decisions, including introducing Premium Number Plates for vehicles, allocating Rs1.5 billion for the procurement of an MRI System for Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) Sukkur, extending Rangers deployment in Karachi division for another six months, and releasing Rs10.189 billion for the payment of retired civil servants’ dues.
Provincial ministers, advisors, Asif Hyder Shah, the chief secretary, and others were present during the meeting.
Sharjeel Memon, the Sindh Minister of Excise and Taxation Department, made a recommendation during the meeting.
At the moment, the department provides number plates for motorcycles, non-commercial vehicles, and commercial vehicles.
According to an official release, the department issued 71,645 choice numbers in 2021–2022 and made Rs44 million from the choice number charge mechanism.
