Despite the company’s promises to improve working conditions, a report claims that certain suppliers to Shein, the massive Chinese fast fashion retailer, still need its employees to put in 75 hours a week.
Following up on its 2021 report, the Swiss advocacy group Public Eye conducted a further investigation and discovered that some employees at six different Guangzhou sites were working excessive overtime.
For its most recent research, the group conducted interviews with 13 workers from six Chinese factories that supplied Shein, and found that many workers were still routinely working excessive overtime.
Shein informed the news that it had made “significant progress on enhancing conditions” and was “working hard” to solve the issues brought up in the Public Eye investigation.
