Environmentalists were alarmed when an airplane struck at least 39 flamingos in the vicinity of Mumbai, western India.
Following the incident, the Emirates flight with more than 300 passengers landed safely on Monday night.
Officials say it’s unclear whether the birds diverted from their typical journey to cross the flight’s path.
Environmentalists are outraged, blaming the catastrophe on excessive building.
Every year, around November, thousands of flamingos travel to Mumbai’s wetlands, where they spend a few months.
Their brief visit is a highly anticipated occasion for locals, who flock in large numbers to observe and photograph the pink guests.
