Melanoma, or spread-resistant skin cancer, has risen by nearly a third in the last ten years, according to Cancer Research UK.
Between 2007–2009 and 2017–2019, rates rose from 21 to 28 per 100,000 people.
According to new research, there is an increasing tendency in instances at all age groups; however, those over 80 have had the largest increase in cases, with a 57% increase over the previous ten years.
There was a 7% rise in people between the ages of 25 and 49.
Approximately 9 out of 10 cases of melanoma that occur each year are avoidable, according to Cancer Research UK, with UV radiation being the primary cause in 17,000 cases.
