Naegleria fowleri, an amoeba that feeds on brains, killed a 23-year-old Orangi Town inhabitant.
The deceased’s relatives claims that he first was admitted to a private hospital on May 30 after developing a fever on May 28. On June 1, he was sent to another private hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal when his condition deteriorated.
Despite being put on a ventilator, the patient passed away from the infection.
It is important to remember that the Sindh health department has acknowledged that this was the second infection-related death in Sindh this year.
