After Burrow’s diagnosis of motor neurone disease in 2019, Sinfield, who was also a player for the Leeds Rhinos, and the former scrum-half raised millions of pounds for charity.
A picture that will stick in people’s minds forever is Sinfield carrying his former teammate across the finish line of the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in May 2023.
Burrow and Sinfield received CBEs from the Prince of Wales in January for their “phenomenal” efforts to raise money for motor neurone disease (MND).
Prince William joined Sinfield in honoring the 41-year-old rugby player-turned-campaigner who passed away on Sunday.
“Today was the day that I hoped would never come,” Sinfield said in a statement that Leeds Rhinos published on the news.
“So many people throughout the world have lost a fantastic man and a lovely friend.
You courageously battled until the very end and emerged as a source of inspiration and hope for everyone who heard and witnessed your story, not just the MND community.”
