KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency informed Geo News on Wednesday that rights campaigner Sarim Burney had been taken into custody in Karachi on suspicion of human trafficking.
They added that Burney was arrested as soon as he arrived in Karachi from the United States, citing the US government’s allegation as the basis for the detention.
According to FIA sources, Burney is charged with smuggling over 25 minors into the US and obtaining their adoption through illicit means.
According to the FIA sources, there have been claims of smuggling 17 children into the US, and an investigation has been launched into the subject.
The non-profit Sarim Burney Welfare Trust International, which the activist oversees, is dedicated to “representing the oppressed and less privileged population.”
