The Punjab government has authorized plans to increase pensions by 15% in the budget for 2024–2025 in addition to raising provincial employees’ pay by 20% to 25%.
The Punjab cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, approved the plan to raise the pay of Grades 1–16 employees by 25%, the pensions of retired workers by 15%, and the wages of Grades 17–22 officers by 20%.
The minimum salary was subsequently raised by the province government from Rs32,000 to Rs37,000 per month.
The CM Maryam-led cabinet approved the province’s budget earlier in the day, with a total expenditure of Rs5.4 trillion. The revenue targets were increased by 53%, from Rs625 billion to Rs960 billion, and no new taxes were imposed.The federal government’s announcement in the budget for the fiscal year 2024–2025 regarding the increment and pension plan for government employees has been upheld by CM Maryam’s administration.
