On Tuesday, three new justices were sworn in to the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa presided over the oath-taking ceremony for Justices Malik Shahzad, Shahid Bilal, and Aqeel Abbasi.
The attorney general of Pakistan and all of the current justices of the highest court were present for the swearing-in event, which took place in the Supreme Court. Notably, Iftikhar Chaudhry, a former chief justice, attended the function as well.
Along with the new Supreme Court judges’ appointments, Qibla Ayaz also swore in as an ad hoc member of the Shariat Appellate Bench. Additionally, CJP Isa delivered the oath for this role.
The three new judges were appointed by President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday after the Federal Ministry of Law released a notification.
Justice Malik Shahzad, the chief justice of the Lahore High Court, Justice Shahid Bilal, a judge on the Lahore High Court, and Justice Aqeel Abbasi, the chief justice of the Sindh High Court, were among the recently appointed justices.
Conversely, an official announcement announced that Justice Shujaat Ali Khan was named the Lahore High Court’s interim chief justice.
