Comcast, the parent company of News, owns Universal Destinations & Experiences, which is planning to construct Europe’s largest theme park with millions of visitors annually, together with a 500-room hotel and dining area. Comcast has purchased land near Bedford for this purpose.
According to Universal’s economic effect estimate, which was released today and was prepared in accordance with HM Treasury criteria on economic appraisal, the attraction will bring in close to £50 billion for the UK economy.
It stated that over the course of construction and the first 20 years of operation, the potential project’s net economic impact to the UK was estimated to be £35.1 billion.
It is anticipated to generate 8,000 new jobs initially, and then more over time after it is operating. The employer has promised to give workers a livable wage.
“The most amazing site we have ever seen”
Situated between Kempston, Wootton, Stewartby, and Wixams, to the south of Bedford, Universal has bought around 500 acres for the site, with the possibility to purchase an additional 200 acres.
