At a press conference on Wednesday, Luna, accompanied by nine other House Republicans—consisting of both moderate and Freedom Caucus members—announced that Garland still has time to comply with a congressional subpoena for the tapes, but that if he doesn’t, “we will press forward with calling the privilege motion on inherent contempt to the floor on Friday morning.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, will be ordered by his colleagues to summon the Sergeant-at-Arms if the motion is successful, “of which they do have the authority under this inherent contempt.”
stated Luna. However, I also want to be clear that Garland made this decision. No one is above the law, once more. And we will if he decides to follow this course.
According to Luna, it’s also critical to remember that, in the event that the Congress is unable to uphold its investigative powers, all other branches of government will effectively disregard, undermine, and handicap us, rendering us less than equal.
