Some within his own party referred to his performance in the Thursday night debate versus Trump as an “unmitigated disaster” after he faltered and paused throughout, sparking calls for his resignation.
In response, The News called on the president to withdraw from the campaign so that a different contender would have a greater opportunity to unseat Trump.
The newspaper quoted its editorial board as saying that “Mr. Biden has been an admirable president.”
But announcing that he will not be seeking reelection is the best civic duty that Mr. Biden can now undertake.
It continued, saying that the president is currently taking a risky stance. Better suited to offer distinct, persuasive, and dynamic alternatives to a second Trump presidency are other Democratic leaders.
There is no justification for the party to jeopardize the nation’s peace and security by making voters choose between Mr. Trump’s and Mr. Biden’s shortcomings.
Mr. Biden has made an effort to allay fears following his performance. He seemed to accept the criticism at a rally in North Carolina, but he remained adamant.
