Following discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority PM Mohammad Mustafa on Sunday, the recently appointed minister met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Monday.
The Labour frontbencher informed Mr. Herzog that he was making “all diplomatic efforts” to assist in securing the release of the last prisoners that Hamas was holding.
“I hope that we see a hostage deal emerge in the coming days,” stated Mr. Lammy.
“And I am making every attempt to use diplomacy; in fact, last week I worked with the G7 countries and in particular.
In addition, I hope that the unconscionable death toll and suffering that are currently occurring in Gaza will soon come to an end and that a ceasefire will be declared.
Mr. Lammy also met the relatives of hostages who had been killed or imprisoned in Gaza by Hamas.
He was seen holding hands and embracing the impacted people in pictures posted on social media.
