The administration led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has harshly criticized Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), over his recent suggestion to hold talks with the military leadership.
Khan’s proposal was denounced by Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, who contended that these talks ought to take place only within the legislative system.
Mr. Asif voiced worry in a recent remark over Khan’s alleged demands that a representative be sent for negotiations by the General Headquarters (GHQ).
Asif emphasized that before engaging in any more political discourse, the events of May 9, which included protests and turmoil, had to be addressed.
He underlined the government’s resolve to serving out its constitutional mandate and accused a political party of evading honoring the families of the martyrs. The defense minister warned against interpreting the constitution in a way that compromises its integrity and emphasized the necessity for political parties to band together in the fight against terrorism.
