Algeria’s Imane Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting are guaranteed at least bronze medals.
Last year, however, they were disqualified from the World Championships.
The International Boxing Association (IBA) oversaw the 2023 event, and it claims both fighters failed gender eligibility checks.
The IBA will conduct a news conference on Monday to provide a “detailed explanation of the reasons for the disqualification”.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has questioned the tests’ credibility, claiming that what is taking on is a “sometimes politically motivated cultural war”.
In June 2023, the IOC removed the IBA’s status as the sport’s world governing body because to concerns about how it was operated.
The IBA, originally known as the AIBA, was established in 1946 as the global governing body for amateur boxing. The IOC acknowledged the IBA as the sport’s governing organization until 2019.
Why did the IOC stop recognize the IBA?
In 2019, the IOC suspended the IBA.
This was due to governance problems and alleged corruption.
It resulted in the danger that boxing would be eliminated from the Olympics entirely by 2028.
