Vice-President Francia Márquez welcomed Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex to the nation on Thursday. Márquez invited the couple after viewing a Netflix series on their lives.
On their first day, they spoke at a conference on digital responsibility organized in part by their Archewell Foundation and visited a school in the capital city of Bogotá to discuss the effects of social media with teens.
“In just a few minutes, what occurs online becomes real on the streets. People are acting based on false information, the Duke remarked.
The Sussexes, who have been the target of their own criticism on social media, have not disclosed the source of funds for the trip, which is not an official royal event nor a state visit.
However, since they resigned as working royals in 2020, they are no longer entitled to full security detail in the UK.
The duke stated that “education and awareness” will be crucial in combating misinformation and that many people were “scared and uncertain” about the potential impact of AI.
