KARACHI: A severe low pressure system over the Arabian Sea is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm over the next day, according to a warning issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday.
The name “Asna,” which means “highest” and “brighter,” will be given to the low-pressure system if it turns into a cyclonic storm, according to PMD’s Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz.
Sarfaraz stated that it is quite unusual to have a cyclonic storm during the monsoon season and that this is the first time since 1961 that a weather system of this kind is aimed towards the coastal region of Sindh from Central India.
“During monsoon, there is approximately 1% or 2% chance for a depression or low pressure to turn into a cyclonic storm or tropical cyclone.” Anjum Nazir, a meteorologist, told News.
