The American actor, who appeared in the adolescent drama from 1998 to 2002, passed away on Wednesday, according to his sister Nkem Ndefo’s Instagram post, saying that his “heart gave out during his longstanding battle against eating disorder orthorexia”.
As his family, we are sharing this news to highlight the seriousness of orthorexia and to hope that individuals who are afflicted with this terrible illness may get the supportive care they need,” she continued.
The hallmark of orthorexia is a fixation with eating wholesome, high-quality meals, which frequently results in an exceedingly restricted diet.
Ndefo, who starred in both Stargate SG-1 and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, had both of his legs amputated.
Ndefo’s co-star Katie Holmes, who portrayed Joey Potter on Dawson’s Creek, honored him on Instagram by writing: “He was such a kind man and wonderful to work with.” I offer his family my condolences and thoughts. Peace be with you.”
“These words don’t come easy,” wrote Mary-Margaret Humes, who portrayed James Van Der Beek’s mother, Dawson Leery, in the show. My dear friend, it’s difficult for me to believe that you are no longer among us.
