According to David Chase, the creator of The Sopranos, TV’s prime is over and the medium’s quality is declining.
On the 25th anniversary of HBO’s phenomenally popular crime show, the executive raised the alarm.
The celebrated producer bemoaned, “We’re going back to where I was,” adding, “They’re going to have commercials [on streamers like Prime Video],” in an interview with The Times U.K. Chase claimed he was “told to dumb it down” when he attempted to access a project that was about a high-end escort.
“We are more into multitasking,” the creator continued, expressing his anger.
The statement goes on, “We can’t make anything that makes too much sense, takes our attention, and requires an audience to focus because we seem confused and audiences can’t keep their minds on things.”
“And as for streaming executives?,” he went on. Things are get worse. We’re returning to our previous location.
He described the time after The Sopranos as “A blip,” a 25-year wobble. To be clear, I’m not only talking about The Sopranos; there are many other incredibly gifted people in the world that I am growing to feel sorry for.
