It was possible to see the lights, also called aurora borealis, into the wee hours of Friday morning.
When charged particles collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere near the magnetic poles, aurora displays result.
The amazing color displays are produced when light is emitted at different wavelengths as they collide.
Although they are currently predicted to be weaker, the Met Office believes there will be another opportunity to witness the lights on Friday night into Saturday.
Go somewhere with less light pollution.
- Using a telescope or camera will improve your odds because they can adjust to varied wavelengths more easily than a human can.
