Chiefs lost 17–14 after giving up a late try in a game where Exeter made several simple mistakes.
But, as they get ready to go to champion Northampton on Saturday, Baxter expresses optimism that their errors will be an isolated incident.
“It’s only game one, so I wouldn’t worry about it if someone asked me if I was really worried about it,” Baxter said to Sport.
“I would be concerned if I were saying the same things in game four.
“So, I believe we could correct almost half of our mistakes this weekend and still lose the game.
However, I’ve told the boys that what matters most is that we have a structure in place that gives us a chance because it will enable us to play well, not whether we win or lose this weekend’s game.
Although the loss was the first on the first day of the season since his team’s loss against Leicester three years prior, Baxter claims there were some encouraging aspects of the setback.
He continued, “The truth is, we played with a physical effort that was on par with anything we did last season.”
