Due to K-Electric’s submission of a request for a fuel price adjustment (FPA) for August, Karachi residents may soon see higher electricity bills.
The utility business is requesting an increase in electricity rates of 51 paisas per unit, and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear this appeal today.
Included in K-Electric’s regular FPA mechanism, which modifies electricity rates in response to changes in fuel prices, is the planned increase. Customers in Karachi may have to pay an extra amount of more than Rs850 million if NEPRA grants the request.
The prospective price increase won’t, however, have an impact on every customer. Customers with lifelines, who frequently use less electricity, will not be affected by the proposed increase, ensuring that the homes in Karachi that are the most economically disadvantaged are shielded from the additional expense.
