The Financial Times (FT) claimed that Pakistan’s current charm effort against US President Donald Trump has unnerved New Delhi, highlighting the stark contrast between India’s waning relations with the White House and Islamabad’s army leader, Field Marshal Asim Munir, receiving a warm reception in Washington.
The story claims that Munir had his second friendly meeting with senior U.S. military officials this summer when he traveled to Florida last weekend for US Central Command chief General Michael Kurilla’s retirement ceremony.
Only weeks after Pakistan and India fought their bloodiest war in decades, Munir and Trump had a two-hour private lunch in Washington in June.
The publication pointed out that such treatment is unusual for a foreign military chief, particularly in light of Trump’s prior criticism of Pakistan.
