PESHAWAR: After Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were denoted from the top parliamentary positions, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday prohibited the speaker of the National Assembly and the chairman of the Senate from selecting opposition leaders in their respective houses.
In addition to prohibiting the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from taking further action against the opposition party’s politicians, the PHC’s two-member bench, which included Justices Arshad Ali and Khurshid Iqbal, heard a petition challenging the ECP’s decision to denotify Ayub and Faraz.
The hearing was postponed until August 15 by the court.
This comes after nine PTI legislators, including Ayub and Faraz, were de-notified by the ECP last week after they were found guilty in the May 9 cases.
