ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, along with the other 12 nations that make up the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP), has accelerated efforts to have the snow leopard recognized at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) as a worldwide symbol of climate adaption.
Prime Minister’s Climate Change Coordinator Romina Khurshid Alam described the stages of this effort during a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.
A news release on Monday stated that the proposal entails sending formal notifications to the UNGA, the nations where snow leopards are found in abundance, and important animal conservation organizations.
Strong cooperation with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs would guarantee a cogent national strategy. International diplomacy will begin in accordance with the states that make up the snow leopard range.
