Ahead of Donald Trump’s state visit next week, the British government has appointed James Roscoe, deputy chief of mission in Washington, as acting ambassador to the US.
Following Peter Mandelson’s firing, Roscoe, a career diplomat and former communications chief to Queen Elizabeth II, will be in charge of the visit.
Following the publication of emails showing Mandelson’s support for Jeffrey Epstein, the infamous financier found guilty of sex offenses, Prime Minister Keir Starmer fired Mandelson on Thursday.
Mandelson implied that Epstein’s 2008 conviction was “wrongful and should be challenged” in one of his messages.
