A US judge has granted Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s legal team access to fresh, private evidence that could support their clemency application.
U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman’s decision permits Siddiqui’s attorneys to examine important discovery documents from 2009, while access is limited because of national security issues.
One of her lawyers, Clive Stafford Smith, was upbeat about the fresh information regarding Siddiqui’s imprisonment at a “Black Site” after her period of isolation at Bagram.
In addition, he filed a thorough 56,600-word mercy petition that outlines the intricacies and purported injustices in Siddiqui’s case.
