Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab, issued an order on Wednesday to suppress rumors that a girl had been sexually assaulted at a private institution in Lahore.
Students in the largest province in the nation have been protesting since the start of the week, calling for the prosecution of those who they believe are responsible for the alleged crime.
Even though both students and police were hurt during the protests, the authorities insisted that no girl had been raped, and the girl’s family likewise ruled out any sexual assault.
The provincial chief executive declared at a press conference that action should be taken “regardless of whether they belong to Chaudhry Pervez Elahi’s Q-League or the PTI [Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf].”
