Additionally, the London exhibit asked guests to bring “no large bags” and “minimal items” to the exhibit.
“We regretfully have now come to a point where we have had to take action to safeguard our guests, employees, and collection,” the statement said.
Since July 2022, the museum has reported multiple attacks on artwork, notably on the Sunflowers, Velazquez’s Rokeby Venus, and John Constable’s The Hay Wain.
These assaults have physically damaged the artworks, upset both staff and visitors, and interfered with our efforts to make sure it.
Since two of these attacks have occurred in the past two weeks, we have made the painful and challenging decision to alter our operations going forward.
The museum also stated that admittance will probably take longer because all of the doors leading into the gallery have walk-through metal detectors where we will check bags and rucksacks.
