Currently ranked among the top 50 games of 2024 by review aggregator Metacritic, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was published in January to a favorable welcome from both users and critics.
According to rumors, the game failed to meet sales goals during a challenging year for the French publisher, which is best known for the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Ubisoft issued the following statement: “Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise.”
There had been no layoffs as a result, according to a spokesman.
The first game in the venerable genre for over a decade was The Lost Crown, developed by Ubisoft’s Montepellier studio.
By guiding the main character Sargon through a number of locations, players were able to unlock further portions of the game’s map as he developed new skills.
The game received plaudits for its controls, graphics, and Farsi-language dialogue, which reflected the Middle Eastern setting of the plot.
“Very proud of our team’s work and passion” on a “game that resonated with players and critics alike,” stated senior producer Abdelhak Elguess.
