LAHORE: Despite a walkout by PPP and PTI MPs in protest of the rejection of their proposed modifications, the Punjab Assembly approved the Punjab Agricultural Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2024 on Thursday, taking the lead among provinces.
The governor will now review and approve the law. But according to sources, the governor will probably send it back to the assembly for additional consideration, The News said.
After the assembly reviews the bill and delivers it to the governor for final approval, it will formally become law.
The contentious bill, which the opposition claims was introduced in order to carry out the IMF’s agenda, said that a “equitable” farm income tax was required in proportion to the revenue from agricultural sources.
