In opposition to a contentious measure that aims to amend the nation’s foundational contract between Māori and British colonists, thousands of people are assembling to march on New Zealand’s parliament.
Up to 30,000 people are anticipated to join Tuesday’s march outside parliament, and hotels in Wellington, the capital, are completely booked.
The protest concludes a nine-day hīkoi, or nonviolent protest, that has been spreading across the nation.
The hīkoi has united Māori activists and those who support them against the measure that a junior member of the ruling coalition introduced.
