In anticipation of demonstrations by supporters of imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan demanding his release, Islamabad was placed under a security lockdown on Sunday. This caused chaos for many residents, as nearly all entrances and exits in the federal capital were barred.
For daily wage workers, including those who operate online taxis in the federal capital, the closure of major thoroughfares and the interruption of internet and cellphone services had unintended effects.
Islamabad’s citizens bemoaned the road closures since they made it impossible to go to their intended location, especially hospitals in case of an emergency.
An attempt has been made to prevent the PTI demonstrators from entering the federal capital by blocking the highways that go to Islamabad.
