India announced on Sunday that it had successfully tested a long-range hypersonic missile that was produced in the country, marking a significant military development milestone that places it among the select few countries with the cutting-edge technology.
Along with China, Russia, and the United States, some nations, including India, are working to create sophisticated long-range missiles in response to the global push for hypersonic weapons.
According to a government release, the Indian missile, which was created by the state-run Defence Research and Development Organization and industry partners, is intended to transport payloads for the armed services at a distance of more than 1,500 kilometers (930 miles).
“With a high degree of accuracy, the flight data… confirmed the successful terminal maneuvers and impact,” it continued.
