Myanmar-Thailand border: Ko Aye and ten other defectors from Myanmar’s military and police forces inspected the inside of an Android phone at a covert meeting above a cafe in a town on the Myanmar-Thailand border.
The group was led by the trainer, a former Myanmar army captain, through the process of fixing a cell phone, a skill that could help them forge a future apart from the war they just left behind.
These former police officers and soldiers are now living in Thailand, close to the Myanmar border, where they are acquiring new skills to adjust to a quiet civilian life after fleeing the infamous institutions they were formerly a part of.
“I’ll go back and fix phones in Myanmar if there’s ever peace,” stated transgender man Ko Aye.
