A strange turn of events occurred on Tuesday when Cristopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer received 13 Academy Award nominations while the director was fast asleep.
Take it as something more than blase. Simply put, we didn’t want to bring bad luck. We simply had a restless night and slept through since watching the nominees was more than our nerves could handle,” Nolan told the Associated Press.
It came to light during the interview that Nolan had been asleep and that his wife, Emma Thomas, had only woken him up because his phones had been inundated with congratulations.
When Thomas considered the movie’s popularity, he said, “It’s flabbergasting, then we got on with the routine of getting a 16-year-old out of bed, but with a spring in our step.”
Nevertheless, since the movie’s July premiere, Oppenheimer has been the front-runner for the Oscar race. The movie received nominations for best sound, production design, acting and supporting acting, best original score, costume design, cinematography, editing, and direction.
Christopher Nolan, 53, is a hugely successful auteur and a highly regarded director of the twenty-first century.
He has never received an Academy Award despite these accolades, however he has been nominated before for “Best Director” for Dunkirk.
