After drowning and being torn apart by crocodiles at a baptism ritual in the Olifants River, Limpopo, South Africa, a self-proclaimed prophet met a horrible end, according to the Daily Mail.
The terrifying event was caused by the 48-year-old Atok man, who identified as a prophet, passing away during a prayer service with two other people.
One of the prophets encountered difficulties during the prayer session and drowned in the river that was home to crocodiles, according to police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba.
Authorities believe that during the baptism ritual, he was attacked by crocodiles. On Sunday, the victim’s remains were found encircled by crocodiles.
The victim’s companions were unable to find him following the incident, which featured three prophets performing the service in the rushing river.
Warnings have been issued by the local police not to go into crocodile-infested rivers for spiritual or recreational purposes.
The only crocodile species found in South Africa, the Nile crocodile, is a serious hazard to human safety. It kills several people every year throughout the continent, and many of these deaths go unrecorded.
