The AI system, Aire-DM, which examines patients’ ECG heart traces for tiny early warning symptoms that are difficult for doctors to otherwise discover, is being trained by the NHS foundation trusts for Imperial College, Chelsea, and Westminster hospitals.
To find out if it performs as well as anticipated, clinical studies are scheduled for 2025.
According to preliminary research, the system can identify risk roughly 70% of the time.
According to senior researcher Dr. Fu Siong Ng, the predictive power can be increased by providing the AI with additional information about additional background risk factors, such as the patient’s age, sex, and whether or not they are overweight or already have high blood pressure.
“It is already pretty good just with the ECG data, but it is even better,” he told News.
