NEW YORK: Donald Trump, the US president-elect, will be sentenced on Friday for his criminal conviction related to hush money paid to an adult star. The case temporarily overshadowed Trump’s attempt to win the presidency again.
Trump made a last-minute attempt to stop the sentencing ten days before his January 20 inauguration, but the US Supreme Court denied his request, clearing the way for the sentencing to go place in Manhattan state court at 9:30 am ET (1430GMT) on Thursday.
Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the six-week trial last year, has made it clear that he has no intention of fining or imprisoning Trump. However, by issuing an unconditional discharge, he would permanently mark Trump’s record with a guilty verdict.
