In their inaugural Under-19 one-day international on Friday, India’s 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi came within a hair’s breadth of a half-century but played a fun knock that helped the tourists chase down England’s meager score in 24 overs.
Suryavanshi opened the batting for India, which was chasing 175 for win. He made an immediate impression, smashing 48 runs in just 19 deliveries as India easily won by six wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series.
After Rocky Flintoff, son of the legendary Andrew Flintoff, scored a calm 56 from 90 deliveries, England staggered to 174 in 42.2 overs. However, Suryavanshi’s fireworks swiftly eclipsed his disciplined innings.
