Moscow: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday that Russia welcomes US President-elect Donald Trump’s expressed desire to settle disputes through discussion and reiterated Russian President Vladimir Putin’s openness to speaking with Trump.
Peskov told reporters that after Trump takes office on January 20, there might be progress on arranging a meeting between him and Putin. Trump did not provide a date when he said on Thursday that he was working with Putin to arrange a meeting.
Trump and his advisors have recently stated that the Russia-Ukraine war may be settled within months of his taking office, despite his frequent claims throughout the election campaign that he could stop it in a day.
Hopes for a diplomatic solution have been raised by his upcoming visit to the White House.
