PESHAWAR: In his next book, Dr. Naseem Ashraf, the former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and president of the National Commission for Human Development, recounts how President Bill Clinton was persuaded by the US State Department not to travel to Pakistan.
President Clinton, however, made the decision to travel to Pakistan in order to stop the execution of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. In order to obtain a guarantee that Nawaz would not be hanged, the US president also met in private with Irshad Hassan Khan, the Chief Justice of Pakistan at the time.
General Musharraf gave him promises, and he landed in Pakistan for a few hours. These ideas were articulated by Dr. Ashraf in his book “Ring Side,” which will be released in Peshawar tomorrow, Tuesday, with more launch events scheduled in other cities throughout
