Washington: TikTok claims that unless the government guarantees that a new law requesting its prohibition won’t be used to penalize service providers, the app will “go dark” in the US on Sunday.
“Unless the Biden Administration immediately provides a definitive statement to satisfy the most critical service providers assuring non-enforcement, unfortunately TikTok will be forced to go dark on January 19,” the company said in a statement.
A statute backed by Congress and President Joe Biden mandates that ByteDance, the app’s owner, sell TikTok or shut down its US operations by January 19. The US Supreme Court affirmed the ruling on Friday.
