Leighton Walters, who lives in Toronto, said that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) had ordered him to take the Vegemite jars off his shelves because they didn’t adhere to regional regulations.
Mr. Walters was taken aback when Albanese responded to his social media post about the problem and vocally supported the Australian-made product.
After the agency altered its mind and allowed Mr. Walters to keep selling the spread, he ultimately declared triumph.
Mr. Walters recalled the incident and said that the inspector’s initial conclusion had been “a bit confusing” to him on World Service’s Newshour program.
