The seventh person to drown in Australia over the Easter weekend is a nine-year-old kid who became stuck between rocks on a beach in New South Wales on Sunday.
Most deaths occurred from people being washed into the ocean from rocks by powerful swells. There are still two unaccounted for individuals.
The CEO of Surf Life Saving in New South Wales, where most of the deaths took place, Steven Pearce, told the news that the Easter long weekend drownings were the “worst” on record.
According to Pearce, “it has just been horrendous on a weekend that’s supposed to be joyous and religious,” the Sydney Morning Herald said.
