The 42-year-old businessman who was the first amateur astronaut to set foot in space is destined to lead NASA.
In order to run an agency that has set its sights on returning to the moon, Jared Isaacman needs to receive a vote of the entire Senate after winning approval from a crucial Senate committee.
Even though he is predicted to win that vote, the billionaire with connections to Elon Musk has faced doubt. During his confirmation hearing, members of both parties questioned him about budget cuts, his wish to send astronauts to Mars, and potential conflicts of interest.
Mr. Isaacman’s leadership will open the door “for groundbreaking achievements” in science and technology, according to President Donald Trump.
