MOSCOW: On May 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin has directed that direct peace negotiations with Ukraine take place in Istanbul.
According to him, the goal of the negotiations should be to put an end to the conflict and address its causes.
The most significant conflict between Russia and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis began in February 2022 when the Russian commander dispatched soldiers into Ukraine.
In an effort to “eliminate the root causes of the conflict” and “achieve the restoration of a long-term, lasting peace,” he said, Russia was putting forth direct negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul.
Putin said Moscow is now prepared to resume negotiations without any restrictions, but he criticized Ukraine for abandoning the talks in 2022.
