The Weeknd has acknowledged that his music was a mask for his insecurities.
As he prepares to debut his film Hurry Up Tomorrow, which stars him, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan, the 35-year-old musician described his collaboration with filmmaker Trey Edward Schults as a “therapy session.”
“Before we shot the film, I went through whatever healing I had to go through,” the Blinding Lights singer stated in an interview with The Guardian. I wanted to do it in a way that seemed more visual once I had to remove that skin.
“I have a lot of albums in the vault, and I would have kept it there if it weren’t for [Trey].” However, it felt appropriate to share it,” The Weeknd continued.
